Stop Motion Animation Beginners – T2a – Course (Puppet Making)
Foundations of Animation in Stop Motion is a Tier 2a beginners course is a study in Stop Motion Puppet Making. It is designed to better enhance the students better understanding of characters through the various setups, animation styles, and beginners level puppet building exercises related to body mechanics through the use of a stop motion armatures and design. The course lasts 3 months and upon completion a will earn their Tier 2a Certification in the “Foundations of Animation in Stop Motion” Certification. This certification will allow the student to be eligible for the Tier 2 Certification. There are a total of 3 Tiers in the Beginners series “Foundations of Animation in Stop Motion” Certification offered by Stop Motion University.
Course Description – This course is focused on body mechanics and performance through the use of a stop motion puppet and a thorough overview of the puppet building process. The student will learn to understand the flow and movement of the human body in the form of a stop motion puppet design through video demonstration and class exercises. The completion of the course will earn the student a certificate in The Foundations of Animation at the T2a level. The course lasts 3 months and will be conducted online. Students will have access to class forums and mentorship by the instructor.

- Course builds a number of puppets and designs. Students are not required to build all designs taught. They can build one puppet to earn their certificate.
Location – This course is 100% online and can be taken anywhere that internet access is available.
Requirement – Students are required to have a internet ready device such as a smart phone, tablet, or computer to be able to access the lessons. Students will also need to have access to materials such as wire, fabric, clay, glues, wood, and epoxy putties. We will also cover Ball and Socket Armature assembly process using a kit from Animation Tool Kit (Anibild). To earn the T2a certificate students will have to complete 2 to 3 puppet builds in the 3 month course term.
